StrepsilsWell, I have been down with a cough for about a week now, and Strepsils and VapoDrops has been an essential part of my arsenal against it. I don’t wish to be a rat, but when shopping for Strepsils at a convenience store, I always find expired lots of it on shelf. Not just with one branch of the chain but so far all the ones I have been to stock expired Strepsils.

Well, heck to that. I thought that as long as they were not too long expired (meaning over a year perhaps?), they ought be edible. Their medicinal properties might be a different matter, but maybe I could do with a placebo as equally well. Their colour still looks decent, their taste still minty and delicious anyway.

A while ago while this blog was still The Abridged Ajani, I had written about freeganism. Well, the post might have been gone now, but I think that if I actually wrote about freeganism and had the chance once to think about it, then this Strepsils could be a case of it’s application. Although I am no freegan, but what’s wrong with expired stuff that still works, anyway? Well I’ve been on it for a week, and I’m still surviving. What’s life without a li’l risk? :)

I’ll be more responsible and post an update about expired stuff’s effectiveness when my cough’s over, anyway. It would be a mini-experiment about the freegan lifestyle, if any. Meanwhile, no guarantees to anything in this post mentioned. For a while during this time, anyway, I was put on conventional Western medicine, though I didn’t take the doses properly; hence this might not be a totally test.

Ah well, as expected, I am still alive!

One wonders if my cough would have healed faster with proper, unexpired Strepsils though… Ah. But as the freegan way goes, as long as it’s edible and it’s safe, it’s good.

Just don’t expect me to go trying out stale, purple fish and decaying meat any time soon. :)

Post hoc ergo propter hoc. It mayn’t have been the Strepsils that cured the cough. “Western medicine”. lol whatever it is, it still messes up your natural biological chemistry. Not exactly freegan, is it?

Yes, because of that, it was not possible to test the expired Strepsils’ true medicinal value here. Well, but the real objective was to see whether the expired Strepsils would kill me after all. In the case that it didn’t, check if it did provide some comfort to my throat – which, as said in the post, it did. Myth busted.

.. Expired Strepsils can’t KILL you. -.- At most just give you a bad stomach ache. Or fever. But it takes a lot to kill a person. Like slicing the jugular.
